Birmingham has more canals than Venice. Also Black Sabbath. Most people know about those things, but did you also know the first commercially-available computer, the Ferranti Mk 1 was invented here? By Conway Berners-Lee. If that name sounds familiar, it should. His son, Tim Berners-Lee, would invent the world wide web. What a family!
Today, Birmingham is still one of the most enterprising and innovative cities in the UK. The Big City Plan was launched in September 2010, which laid out a detailed framework for radical changes to the city centre. Since then a number of new developments have been launched to reenergise Birmingham’s Economic Zones, the latest of which, 2 Snow Hill, is a new business centre just off Colmore Row – that’s where we are, by the way, so come visit any time you like.
Birmingham also has the largest number of new start-ups outside London. So many in fact, that the city’s been nicknamed ‘TechBrum’ by local technology entrepreneurs.
